Bots are out there, swapping millions of messages with humans every day. Some bots are funny or artistic; others perform valuable tasks in the workplace. "Invisible apps" like Magic, Lark and Digit are pushing conversational UI into the mainstream, while bots work alongside our colleagues in Slack and HipChat. It's an amazing time to build bots.
This meetup is open to people of all skill levels and disciplines. If you're excited about bot interactions or conversational UI, you're invited to attend the first ATX Bot Talk meetup at Seaholm Power Plant!
"The History of Bots" by Ben Brown, XOXCO
From Eliza to SmarterChild, Ben explores the history of chatbots to the present, and why a new age of intelligent bots is upon us. What are the implications of conversational UI and "invisible apps" for botmakers? Where are the opportunities, both professionally and creatively? Ben kicks off ATX Bot Talk with a perspective on the modern bot landscape.
"Hello PyBot - Python chat bots for Slack" by Jeff Kramer, Vox Media
Messaging-based bots don't have to just be for Twitter botmakers or chatops. Anyone with some python skills can build a bot to live in their Slack rooms. In this talk, Jeff Kramer will get you started: exploring the libraries you'll need, walking through a sample bot's code, and sharing some tips and tricks to make the next steps easier.
